Terms of Service

1. Who we are

Volta Marketplace ("we", "us", "the platform") is a multi-category marketplace connecting buyers, sellers, businesses, service providers, job seekers, employers, event organizers, and charter-ride users across the Volta and Oti Regions of Ghana. Volta Marketplace is operated by Dziwornu Prince, based in Ghana. Registration as a sole proprietorship under the business name "Volta Marketplace" is in progress; registration details will be published here once issued.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the platform. Some categories (for example, Sexual Wellness) carry an additional self-declared 18+ confirmation before you can browse or list in them; this is a standard marketplace check, not verified age checking, and does not replace the general eligibility requirement in this section.

3. Accounts & verification

You can create an account with an email address or a phone number, and a password, or by continuing with Google or Apple. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account.

Vendors may optionally complete identity verification (KYC) through our verification partner, Didit, to receive a Verified badge on their listings. Verification is a one-way flow: once approved, your account shows as verified until revoked by us or voluntarily given up; we do not store the documents you submit to Didit — only the verification status and, where Didit's decision includes it, the legal name extracted from your ID, are kept on our side.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to post or facilitate listings that are illegal under Ghanaian law, fraudulent, counterfeit, or that misrepresent what is actually being offered. We may remove listings, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate this section at our discretion.

In particular, you may not list, advertise, or offer:

Illegal goods of any kind;
Drugs or other controlled substances;
Weapons, firearms, or ammunition;
Stolen or counterfeit goods;
Child sexual abuse material, or any content that sexualises or otherwise exploits minors;
Human trafficking, escort or sexual services, or any form of forced labour;
Items you do not have the legal right to sell, or that require a licence you do not hold.

Adult/sexual-wellness products are permitted within the platform's existing age-gated 18+ category; adult/sexual services are prohibited under this section regardless of category.

5. Listings & payments

Fees you pay to Volta Marketplace are for listing visibility only — publishing, renewing, or featuring a listing, registering as a charter driver, or subscribing to a marketplace plan tier. Volta Marketplace does not collect, hold, or process payment for the goods or services advertised in a listing itself; any transaction for those goods or services happens directly between the buyer and the vendor, outside the platform. Listing/visibility fees are shown to the vendor before payment, and each fee depends on the plan or category selected at the time.

All payments you make to us for visibility fees are processed by our payment partner, Paystack. We never see or store your card number or banking credentials — our records are limited to the transaction reference, amount, currency, and status that Paystack reports back to us.

Promo codes, where offered, are applied at checkout and discount a transaction in the manner the code specifies; abuse of promo codes may result in their reversal and, for repeated abuse, account suspension.

6. Vendor and buyer responsibilities

Vendors are responsible for the accuracy of their own listings, for honoring the terms they advertise, and for complying with applicable Ghanaian consumer-protection and tax law for their own business. Buyers are responsible for exercising their own judgment when dealing with any vendor, verified or not — a Verified badge reflects a completed identity check, not an endorsement of a vendor's goods, services, or conduct.

7. Content ownership & image rights

You retain ownership of the photos, descriptions, and other content you upload. By posting, you grant us a license to host, display, and distribute that content on the platform (and in promotional placements of the platform itself) for as long as your listing is active. Where we apply a watermark or similar overlay to uploaded images, it is applied for platform-attribution and anti-scraping purposes only and does not change who owns the underlying image.

8. Disputes between users

Volta Marketplace is a venue that connects buyers and sellers; we are not a party to the transactions, agreements, or rides arranged between users on the platform, and we do not guarantee the quality, safety, or legality of what any vendor offers. Disputes between a buyer and a vendor (or a rider and a charter driver) are between those parties. We may, at our discretion, assist with reports made through the platform's reporting tools, but we are not obligated to mediate or resolve disputes.

9. Limitation of liability

Volta Marketplace is a venue for listings and visibility only and is not a party to any transaction between users, consistent with Section 5 above. The platform does not guarantee the quality, safety, legality, or accuracy of any listing, or the conduct, identity, or reliability of any user — including a user whose account shows a Verified badge. You transact with other users entirely at your own risk.

The platform is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by Ghanaian law, Volta Marketplace's liability to you is limited, and we are not liable for disputes between users, or for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from your use of the platform or the conduct of other users. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under the laws of Ghana.

10. Suspension & termination

We may suspend or deactivate an account that violates these Terms, at our discretion, with or without notice depending on severity. You may close your own account at any time from Settings; see our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data when you do.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above; continued use of the platform after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ghana.
